Bathroom Remodel – A Girl's Tale

DISCLAIMER – this blog has nothing to do with anything remotely bridal, but it does have to do with everything girly…and guy-y. It also has everything to do with Belize.

I have lived in my little house for nearly 7 years. When i bought it through Tim and Tina at Invest In Belize Real Estate, the second i walked through the door, i looked at Tina, and said “yes”. When i bought it, there were some things that needed-doin’. A honey-do list of sorts. But overall, the house was in great shape.

Since then, the only thing i’ve done is paint. Well that, and years ago i added a fence and deck. The process of which was so exhausting I havent dared another project of any sort since that time. I did install a ceiling fan once, and in direct contrast to the explicit warning from Tim, I did not turn off the switch. Fortunately for me, i was on a wooden ladder. I have tried to be “handy” in this house, and I am simply Not.

The List is very long. And very major for me (need a new roof, tiles have popped on most of floor). So, i decided to start in a room that would make me happy. I’ve never had a “nice” bathroom. I want a “nice” bathroom. Dammit!

Current Vanity and mirror. This wall is about 9 feet long. Please note the lack of “cold water” handle…and ergo, therefore, henceforth, thereunto – No cold water in sink. arg.

This is my bathroom now. Very functional, but not “nice”. Well, not actually functional either as the sink is broken and i only have hot water. Which, of course comes out scalding when not mixed with cold. BUT, i have it timed….if done properly, i can brush my teeth and wash my face before the hot water comes on full blast.

The shower/toilet wall. toilet mostly works, but sometimes not. Shower is fine, but its dark, and the tiles are starting to need regrouting

There are several towel bars in the bathroom, this one i use to keep my necklaces. Took me a couple years to ‘discover’ this, and i LOVE it

It’s taken me months to find a contractor I thought could do a good job and was knowledgeable enough to ‘do it right’. I received the bid today.

I call this series of blogs “A Girls Tale” because ever dude i know says “you can do this” or “you can do that”. No, i cant. I’m a “girl”…and that’s not to say girls cant do such things, but trust me – THIS girl, cant. I cry “girl” instead of “uncle”. I give up trying as i’ve hurt, cut, electrocuted, bruised, skinned and otherwise caused physical harm to myself. so, undertaking a remodeling project on my own is very daunting….but i’m optimistic!

Next up – shopping in belize city.
