Flow by an Angel From Belize to Roatan Honduras with Tropic Air
I woke up early to get a lot of stuff done before my trip to Roatan, Honduras from Belize City. The flight from BZE to Roatan leaves International Airport at 4:15 pm. I had an 1130 appointment in the City, so I was booked on the 11 am from San Pedro to Belize City. I dropped Maxi Little Head (the dog) at the vet, arranged for someone to feed the cats, and loaned my photo printer to Saga Humane Society for Photo’s With Santa at the Lighted Boat Parade on Dec 7, and I was off like a flash.
Well, not so much a flash. I had a really productive meeting and was supposed to meet my friend Anna for lunch (and mucho cocktailo’s) before my flight. Anna was coming by boat from the south of Belize, and the weather really mucked things up for her, and we weren’t able to meet. I did, however, have 2 really fabulous (and intoxicating hiccup!) margarita’s and a shrimp wrap. I love you Dustin, by the wrap, while tastey, was over priced at $26 bzd (would have felt better had it come with fries)
My email was blowing up while I was at Riverside Tavern (free wifi, woohoo!) because apparently there is horrendous weather in Roatan. Super strong storm level winds and rain was resulting in many flights into Roatan being cancelled. Both Honduran contacts and Belize peeps were keeping me updated as the . It’s a $50 bzd cab ride one way to International from the City. I rolled the dice, and hoped the flight would go, otherwise I’d be wasting $100 round trip to get back to the City to hang with Anna.
Upon check-in at Tropic Air at International, I was informed that our Captain would be “Angel”. I considered this a good sign. Captain Angel made the call, and off we went. I am writing this from the plane, and after I snapped a few pics of cruise ships and the like, we were in the clouds. Nothin’ to see here, folks, so just keep movin’.
With nothing to do, i thought i’d catch up on my San Pedro Sun (hard to take a decent selfie whilst holding a newspaper on an airplane)
View of “West End” of Roatan. The flight was very smooth until we came upon our approach. A bit of turbulence, but really, Angel was a flying angel. Below, a pic of the very well light up runway. The wind was fierce, but i believe in my travel angel, and i was not disappointed.
We’ve arrived!
