Las Verandas, Roatan, Honduras – Night 1
Las Verandas, Roatan, Honduras – Night 1
Although the weather was awful, we landed in a deserted Roatan, Honduras Airport right on time. A super cute guy was waiting for me with the “Las Verandas” Sign. Emsly Hyde has his own tour and transportation company here, and has been contracted with Las Veranda’s to do their people schlepping. His super nice arms aside, he’s a consummate professional who speaks impeccable English. He spoke with chagrin of the traffic issues on the island and shared that his grandfather brought the first vehicle to the island. He explained that Roatan was part of British Honduras “back in the day” and as a result, like Belize, many locals speak English fluently. We drove over the hills and mountains, and arrived at the gated community in Pristine Bay. Las Veranda’s was definitely over the hill and through the woods.
This is the lobby. Not much else to say as a picture is worth a thousand words. Just elegantly and perfectly done. Since it’s a sister property of Victoria House, I expected no less.
I was driven via golf cart to my Villa, #5. Um, yeah, it’ll do.
The General Manager, the awesome, stunning and brilliant Keila joined me for dinner. Kelia is 8th generation Roatan-ian (??). Her English is impeccable and she has a strong, long history in the hotel industry.
Everything is SO new. They are a very new property, so everything was sooo new. In fact, it was so new and shiny, I had to take a picture of the shiniest silverware ever.
This was the most awesome refried bean/cheese dip. I wish we did better refried beans in Belize. I love them so. Especially with a cosmo.
I had a jerk chicken salad dish with “poppadoms” – an Indian tortilla chip of sorts. Keila had the fish tacos
The absolutely incredible Cristina, the Food and Beverage Manager, joined us. The team that Janet from Victoria House as assembled, from all accounts, is world class. Cristina has her MBA and then studied culinary arts in Italy. She is a bright, enthusiastic, beautiful woman who brings an effervescence to the place.
