Melt Cafe – a truly unique restaurant in San Pedro

I am NOT a foodie.  I consider food a means to stop the pain in my stomach.  I do not typically enjoy eating out, per se, as much as I like the experience of being with my friends in a social setting.  As a result, I am in a restaurant rut and eat at the same place all the time, and never try new places.  There are other foodies who blog a whole lot more articulately than I.  If you want to hear about food in San Pedro, read Tacogirl.com’s blog.  She’s always eating.

But today, today was different.  Today the sun was finally out after weeks of rain, and I decided to walk halfway to town and meet a friend for lunch.  There isnt much to chose from south of town, really, so I suggested Georges Kitchen.  I love it there, basic, reasonably priced good local food, and just a nice spot.  They were closed, so we walked down the road to Melt Cafe in Exotic Caye Resort.

First of all, it’s SUPER cute. They have completely changed the inside.  They have added seating outside and have added table with umbrellas on the beach.

Second of all, the menu.  It’s completely unexpected for San Pedro (at least to me).  It’s a huge menu full of melted items. You do know what “melt” means? It means cheese, and I consider cheese to be it’s own food group.  My friend and I shared a chicken melt that had some sort of indian spices on it.  I forget, because I am not a food blogger, but it was DELISH . It was something i never would have ordered had i not been sharing, and i’m so glad i did.  YUM!

Finally, Mimosa’s.  $15 bzd ($7.50 usd) for an orange or watermelon juice Mimosa.  I worship at the alter of Mimosa’s so I was in my glory – on the beach, sandwich in hand with cheese on it, friend to my side, dog at my feet… I’m pretty sure it doesnt get any better than this 🙂

ps – they even gave Max a treat 🙂
