Roatan Honduras Day 2 a Hike a Golf Course and a Beer
Roatan, Honduras Day 2 A Hike A Golf Course and A Beer (or 12)
I woke up unusually early, and opened the curtains in my bedroom. Not a bad view, eh?
Upon check in, Ana – Guest Services Manager extraordinaire, had several Roatan information books for me. I got a bit of work done while still in bed, and with that view, it was pretty pleasant work, I must say!
Hunger strikes! I pick up the cordless phone, and order my room service breakfast. The food prices here at Las Verandas, arguably the single most luxurious property in Honduras, are surprisingly reasonable. I ordered the “Comfort Breakfast” and it was $8 usd. And I ate it in bed. The only time I’ve had breakfast in bed was when I was in the hospital – this is soooo much better.
It seems the rain followed me from Belize, and it’s been rainy and very windy all night and continued throughout the day. Here’s a panoramic picture from one of the two verandas off my suite.
Prior to coming to Roatan, I had made a ‘facebook friend’ Veronica who happens to live in Roatan. When I planned my trip down, we made arrangements to meet at Las Veranda’s at 10 am. She is not only a photographer and social media consultant, she also runs the Facebook page Roatan Fans. We had a fantastically inspiring meeting, and then decided to brave the rain and head to “the mall”. I donned the rain poncho provided by Las Verandas, and got this quick pic before we headed out to explore. Las Verandas, where I read the San Pedro Sun.
This is the view from the lobby. I wish it was sunny so there was enough light to see how really beautiful it is.
Pristine Bay, the gated community where Las Veranda’s is located, is about 2 miles and three moutain/hills away from the main road. Veronica and I were feeling ambitious, so we decided to walk. They front desk staff thought we were insane.
There is a gorgeous golf course in Pristine Bay, and you pass it on the way to Las Verandas
After the first mountain, I understood their incredulous-ness. Holy Hills!! I did not that a human could climb so steep an incline. Unfortunately, the overcast skies prevented me from getting any great pictures to share the spectacular view from the top of these mountain/hills, but hopefully before I have to leave the clouds will part.
The rain stayed at bay until we nearly to the “mall”. It was more of a strip mall, but it was more than I was used to, so it was great. We couldn’t decide where to eat, and the rain forced us to make a quick decision, so we wound up at Wendy’s. They have a nice grilled chicken flatbread sandwich, so it wasnt too bad.
Veronica called Las Verandas for me and we scheduled Emsly (the super cute driver/tour guide) to collect me in 45 minutes and I hit the grocery store. I picked up some cheese, a few snacks, and the most important of all, a couple 6 packs of America Beer.
