TS Matthew To The Jersey Shore
There was some concern about Tropical Storm Matthew heading this way. We here on Ambergris Caye, watched it closely. Yesterday, my neighbors began pulling their boats. I love the “old school” of the ‘trailer’, and please note the boats name.
Ive been working away and this weather has made me a bit blue, I must admit. The thought of 4 more days of rain, did not have feeling exactly perky. So, when i saw other Belizeans posting their pictures of the storm as it passed by, I thought I’d hit the beach and do the same. Fortuitous choice, as the sun decided to make a much needed appearance.
When i first stepped out to the beach, i realized that it reminded me of the Jersey Shore. One of the things that is so completely different about the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean, is exactly how HIGH ENERGY the Atlantic Ocean is. It crashes on the beach, it has an terrifying undertow, it is very loud. It is also very soothing for these very reasons, but its a different kind of soothing than the Ambergris Caye, Caribbean Ocean.
I’d been missing the Atlantic Ocean, lately. I wanted to hear the ocean, i’d missed that. The ocean here is this gentle licking of the beach. While that is exactly what one needs when one is used to the Atlantic, when one has gotten used to the lake-like ocean here… Well, when that “one” is Me…then I missed that Atlantics energy.
Then the sun came outl 🙂 And what is a violent ocean in Ambergris Caye, looked like a “Damn Calm Day” on the Atlantic. The thing is, all that energy is absorbed by the reef. The waves were Huge
