Day Trippin’ to Spanish Lookout
Day Trippin’ to Spanish Lookout
I had the opportunity to spend some time in Cayo with my friend Libby a few weeks ago. On the last day, we drove to Spanish Lookout, the Mennonite community. They had a whole world of stores and items that you simply cannot get anywhere else, and since they are not required to pay taxes or duty on anything, the pricing is the best in Belize.
Mennonites are farmers, so there was a fabulous feed shop. I got all sorts of things for the dog and cat at reasonable prices. Max got flea/tick stuff, shampoo and a new leather collar. The collar was super reasonable considering it’s leather, but of course, Max has a little head and can still escape if he likes.
My new venture “12” carries the Lemon Crush Belize line of products, and I needed ‘notions’ for things I’m having made. For those that don’t know, “notions” in sewing terms, are the ancillary items one needs in order to make things. Notions include zippers, buttons, and fun gadgetry. We dont have much of this sort of stuff in San Pedro, so it was nice to have choices.
And they had lots and lots and lots of fabric.
This is batting. A whole big fat roll of it! I needed batting for a project, and you know what I used? A mattress pad. We are nothing if not creative.
We took a different way out of Spanish Lookout. We had to take the pull ferry. The pull ferry is a dying breed here in Belize, but I love them. It’s a hand cranked platform that carries cars and people across the river. I am always very humbled by the cranker.
Lining up for the ferry.

Crossing the river
