Introducing, Alice the Apprentice and “What She Did This Summer”

Things have been a bit nuts at RTB Headquarters what with my new Design Studio and Consultation space in town, renovations on the house, Miss Costa Maya Pageant and Lemon Crush Belize Bikini’s, a new LGBT initiative, and embarking on the development of organized voluntourism in Belize. I have added two staff members to the RTB Team (yay!).

That's our Alice on the right :) Isnt she cute?

That’s our Alice on the right πŸ™‚ Isnt she cute?

Please allow me to introduce Alice. She is 12 years old, originally from the UK and moved here with her Mom, Kate, about 3 years ago. Alice is very bright, pleasant, attentive and observant. She can also write pretty darn well for a 12 year old!

Alice has already assisted at a large wedding for a client in July. She was brilliant and noticing details that would ruin a photo, run around gathering needed items, and just generally being incredibly useful. Look for Alice at future events as she has aspirations of being a wedding planner when she grows up.

Having written articles for the local print newspaper, “San Pedro Sun”, Alice was the perfect choice to blog from a kids perspective. RTB is more than just weddings, we do family vacations and all sorts of travel arrangements, so it’s nice for readers and future travelers to know what to expect for children.

Here’s her first blog. I made only one minor correction, the rest is all her. If you see her in town please say “hi!”…she’d love it πŸ™‚ Also, i should point out, Alice is a heck of a little photographer. She took all the photo’s attached at the end of her blog.

ALICE’S BLOG
Over the summer, I had a few summer camp experiences, and I enjoyed all these camps very much. I meet lots of new people and tried new things.

The first camp I went to was a Christian summer camp called Son & Sea. The camp was on June 10th – 13th. At Son & Sea, we had a variety of activities to chose from, including swimming, crafts and “death by noodle”. Everyday close to the end we would sing songs then go off in groups, and spend about 45 minuets or more talking about how Jesus is in our lives. The councilors this year taught us about Jesus by dressing up as super heroes, and telling us that super heroes are like band-aids and just swoop in fix the problem then leaves. But Jesus he doesn’t leave he stays with us through happy and sad times. I’m really glad that my councilors taught me this.

The second camp I went to, was a conservation camp at Belize Zoo. This camp was held on July 1st – 5th.Over those five days I experienced many things I went bird watching, I went on a night tour, I high fived a jaguar and hiked 2 1/2 miles to a water fall and I just had the best time while making friends along the way, and I hope I can go next year.

The last camp I went to was Chaa Creek EcoKids Camp. This camp was held on July 20th – 28th. These are some of the activities I experienced .
Day 1: Creatures of the night hike.
Day 2: Guided bird walk with a naturalist guide, tour of butterfly farm, and tour of natural history museum.
Day 3: Hike to Chaa Creek maya site, Power point presentation on Ancient Maya by mayanist Joe Awe.
Day 4: Medicinal Plan Lecture, Medicinal Cures, Treatments and recipes by Salome, Guided medicinal walk, and swim at swimming pool.
Day 5: Organic Farming with Mr Mick.
Day 6: Discussion and Demonstration of the 3 Rs of Conservation with Brion Young, and Music Segment with Emmanuel Mangar.
Day 7: Presentation on sustainability, Responsible tourism presentation with Ms. Lucy, Horseback Riding, and Team song competition.
Day 8: Interactive Presentation on Belize Wildlife by Jamal from Belize Zoo,Treasure Hunt!, and Staff & camper talent show.
Day 9: Pack & Clean, and talent show for parents.

I am very great full for all these opportunities I have had this summer .
