The Belize Zoo Summer Camp

The Belize Zoo is my favorite “thing to do” in Belize.  It’s a 100% rescue zoo, and the animals live in natural habitat enclosures.  They respond to founding power-house Sharon Matola by name.  My favorite experience was passing by the crocodile pond with Sharon. As we walked, she called out “Bruuuuuce, Bruuuuce!”.  And up swam a 16 foot crocodile.  We just kept on walking like nothing unusual had happened, and i guess for Sharon, nothing had.

When i saw on facebook that The Belize Zoo is accepting applicants for it’s 20th Annual The Belize Zoo Summer Camp, i emailed to find out more. I just KNEW that this was an incredible opportunity for some children.  Not just Belizean children, but all children.  The Camp is open to children 12 – 17 years old, and is 5 days, 4 nights.  The cost: $50 usd.  The dates are July 1 – July 5, 2013, and there are only 30 spots.

$50 US dollars covers materials, accommodations, meals, field trips and activities for the duration of camp.

Hello! North Americans!  Instead of spending thousands to send your kid on a Disney Cruise, spend less $50 plus airfare and send him/her to Belize…to live with some amazing animals and learn a little something.

Of course, i’d put mom and dad up at a very comfortable place for 4 nights, where you’ll be pampered while the kids literally, run wild.   4 nights in the jungle for mom and dad while the kids are at the Zoo, and then you all come to San Pedro for an amazing family vacation with snorkeling and beach time.  Sounds like heaven to me!
