Kissing Balls in San Pedro, Belize
Ok, slightly salacious blog title is on purpose, but it’s also what the darn things are called!
I was asked by a potential Belizean client about the availability of “kissing balls” in San Pedro, Belize. I had to confess, while i thought i knew what they were, i had to look it up to be sure. I’d always called them “flower balls”…but i guess they are also known as kissing balls.
I looked online, and they are not cheap. Here’s a page with loads of them: Kissing Balls I’m not sure why they are called kissing balls, i think that maybe it’s because they can replace mistletoe?
Anyway, i found a tutorial online about how to make them, so off i went to town to scavenge for supplies. Remember, we don’t have craft stores or Walmart here, so this could get tricky. I was able to find one large foam ball, one medium ball, and a bag of 9 small ones. The red ball below is the first one i made, and it’s made from a small foam ball and red paper.
The red ball took me the longest, as i made the flowers TINY. The large white has over 300 hand made (by me) paper flowers on it. I now understand why they are so much money to buy.
These and other Kissing Balls will be available for rent in my LemonCrushBelize/RomanticTravelBelize Design Studio in town.
