Tale of 3 Cities Part 1 Philadelphia
A few days ago i returned to San Pedro, Belize from a three week trip to Philadelphia and New York City. This was the longest trip i’ve ever taken – for any reason. The most i’ve ever been away from home was 2 weeks and 2 days. Even in my early days of living in Belize, when i used to “bugger off” and just go until i didnt want to ‘go’ anymore i would always come back to San Pedro at 2 weeks. Anymore than that, it didnt feel like travel, it felt lost.
The trip was a very “big” one. Not in any measurable terms, but in terms of my energy and my business growth. I was used to working from my wee little house on a tiny island in the middle of the caribbean, where a busy day means i “went to town” on my bike…with my dog in tow. I am used to working by myself in my loft with my dog in the yard, and my deaf blind cat on the floor.
I arrive in Philadelphia a day before a scheduled lunch with my 100 year old grampa. He told me that he cant see enough to read anymore. I bought him a “Nook”. I taught my 100 year old grampa to use a Nook. He is amazing.
Then, on Monday, I began the real ‘work’. I had an appointment to meet Marilyn Russell from 95.7 BenFM. This Philadelphia based radio station is in the same office space as 93.3 WMMR. Marilyn is awesome. I literally wanted to bring her back to Belize with me and keep her as a friend. She gave me a tour of the space, and there was my idol, Pierre Robert. I tried to remind him of the Bob Marley 12-14-11 a couple months ago, but he was busy being his uber good-citizen self. Then, Marilyn and i got to talking about the Maya Marriage of Many for 12/12/12, and she just loved the idea, and of course, fell in love with Belize. She taped our interview, and it should play soon on her “woman of the week” broadcast one of these sundays. I’d never done radio before…it was SO much fun.
I met with their Director of Sales and did a little brainstorming about a Belize Promotion of some sort. I have a wicked idea for Halloween time frame, and a very intriguing proposition brewing for the summer with the Philadelphia LGBT community.
What a great Monday. The next day, Tuesday, I head to New York City to meet with Ronnie Rothstein, owner Kleinfeld Bridal of “Say Yes To The Dress” fame regarding a Belize/Kleinfeld relationship. OMG!
