Three Ways to get from Cancun to San Pedro
I am working with the Association for Wedding Planners International www.afwpi.com for an upcoming Familiarization Trip. Richard, who owns the company, is planning a 400 strong Destination Wedding Planners trip to the Riviera Maya, and then will be bringing a select few to La Isla Bonita! One of the challenges with which Belize is faced, is the incredibly high cost of airfare.
Many bright (and some not so bright) minds sit and discuss and ponder “why” its so expensive to get here, and I guess i’m of the mindset “the goal has not changed”. To me, its a waste of energy to try to figure out why its so costly. I’d rather figure out how to get around the big ole brick wall.
So, in an effort to help coordinate with the www.afwpi.com Fam trip, Richard asked me to put together the reasonable options for getting a large group of people down here. So when I sat down, the truth is, there are some reasonable alternatives, if not just straight up creative tips on how to save some money on airfare so that you, your group, your bridal party or reunion, whatever…can get here.
First, you have to fly into Cancun. Cancun is a major airport. Major. Do a search of any site for ‘flights to cancun’ and you will find cheap flights, from a couple hundred dollars, from hundreds of cities.
Direct Cancun to San Pedro with Tropic Air
Tropic Air, the premier airline in Belize, will private charter your group directly from Cancun International Airport (CUN) to San Pedro, Belize (SPR)…according to your groups schedule. Planes in increments of 12 people only. This is the ONLY direct international service from Cancun to San Pedro, bypassing Belize international airport (BZE).
Total Cost: $639 usd
Total Travel Time: 4 hours, round trip
Private Bus From Cancun, across border to Corozal, Belize. Fly to San Pedro
Belize VIP Transfer will pick you up in private coach bus for groups of 25 – 30 at CUN, bring you across the border, to the Corozal Air Stip. You will then catch a short flight to SPR.
Total Cost: $245
Total Travel Time: 10 hours 40 minutes
If you’re return flight is leaving CUN before 5:00 pm, you cannot get from SPR to CUN in time to make your flight. You will need to overnight in Playa Del Carmen or Cancun. Both will come with the need to catch a 1 hour bus (minimum) to the airport, and the hotels arent going to be super cheap. There is a Courtyard Marriott with a shuttle 2 miles from the airport, its $90 in slow season.
Total Cost: $335 plus food
Total Travel Time: 22 hours 40 minutes, minimum
Fly Into Cancun, Fly Out of Belize
You might have to book two one-way tickets to get the best price, but it might be worth the savings over flying directly into Belize. This only works if you are already in Cancun or Playa del Carmen, or if your flight gets into CUN before 11 am. If you get in after 11 am, you will have to overnight in Playa Del Carmen. Minimum 6 people.
You would get Belize VIP Transfer to pick you up at CUN, transfer you across the border to Corozal. You’d fly to San Pedro. Then, when you are ready to go home, fly from SPR to BZE, then home!
Total Cost: $182.50
Total Travel Time: 5 hours 39 minutes round trip
If you have to overnight:
Total Cost: $252.50
Total Travel Time: 17 hours 39 minutes
