All Natural, Belize Made Bath and Body Products

Libby lives on a beautiful piece of land just before the junction to go to Caracol. When we were driving to her house she was explaining the density of Mayan artifacts and Mayan ‘mounds’ in the area. There are over 600 ancient Maya sites in Belize, and one of the great wonders to me is that each ‘mound’ or small hill you see is most likely an unexcavated Mayan site. She has some on her land as well, and explained that her land was once the “suburbs of Caracol”. Caracol was one of the most famous and important ancient Mayan Cities and was active and populated from about 1200 BC to 950 AD.

“The Junction” is Libby’s little, strange gift shop/bar/spice outlet store right at the Junction to go to Caracol, Rio of Pool, and Rio Frio Caves. All truly exceptional sites. More to come on those in a future blog.

Caribbean Spice is a premier spice and seasoning company that Libby started a few years ago. She and her family hail from New Orleans, so food, spices and fun are in her DNA and her accent makes me laugh all day long. I wish my name ended in an “R” so I could hear how it would sound with a Cajun accent, but I digress.

I love using her products, all made here in Belize, in my gift baskets and for guest welcome bags. Nothing represents a region quite like it’s food and flavors, so they really are perfect for that. She also has a talent for recipes in general, and in light of my baskets and overwhelmingly positive response to them throughout Belize and on the internet, I decided to brow beat her into making me some special products. Bath and Body Products to be exact.

When Carrie from Letters to My Friends, stayed in my home for several months, she taught me about using natural products for bath and body. For nearly a year, I have washed my face with nothing but baking soda and moisturize with nothing but coconut oil, and my skin has literally never been better. My friend Cindy made me a honey-sugar-lemongrass body scrub and I loved it. Since Libby has the bottle and jars for her food product, the natural inclination toward creating recipes, and that accent I love so much, I decided to brow beat her into Body Product Making Submission.

She came up with sugar scrubs, mani-pedi scrubs, shaving lotion, a honey face wash and a coco butter body cream. Here we’re whipping up a batch of something yummy to slather on ourselves. I have to say the testing and manufacturing process were super fun and my hands never felt so soft!

Once that was complete, she had a giant order for spices and seasoning to make before the Christmas Rush. I was put to work in the garden picking fresh oregano that she was about to use in one of her recipes. I helped to can the gorgeous mustard that had been boiling on the stove for hours, but I’m sort of a lousy assistant – the mustard smelled so good, I made a sandwich.

Yum.
