Fashion in Belize – Bursting with Talent

There’s a lot to know about a country and belize is no exception.  Betcha didnt know that Belize has some AWESOME fashion talent.    It does.  So, in case ya didnt know, here ya go.

First up is Joris Hendrik.  I was first introduced to Joris’ incredible talent when I produced a photoshoot for a US wedding gown designer.  I am committed to always giving opportunity to local Belizean talent, so I insisted on 3 things.  One, that we use a Belizean model and I was thrilled when I was able to secure the reining Miss Belize,  the unbelizeable Destinee Arnold.  Second, I insisted that at least one Belizean Photographer be on site.  I had recently stumbled upon Monica Gallardo via facebook.  Her photographic style is so romantic, i knew she’d find some magic.  Finally, i wanted a Belizean designed wedding gown.  Bridal design is a very specific type of design, and not all designers do it, so i knew it was a long shot.  I could not contain my glee upon learning that Joris had made a gown.  The gown is a stunning cotton and happen to fit Miss Belize as though it was made for her.

Those three elements came together to create this stunning image.

Joris has an incredible design style and is definitely a “designer to watch” in fashion.

The next “designer to watch” is Richard Henderson.  Born and raised in Belize, Richard relocated to California where he has a design house called RHCreation with partner, Timothy McGee.  RHCreation found itself in the international spotlight recently when they showed at San Diego Fashion Week.  Not only did they show, they *showed up* and won! According to Justluxe.com “The winning designers of Fashion Week San Diego were announced, and as voted by the audience was the RHCreation team, with Wish Now and Greenpatcha coming in second and third, respectively. ”  The winners were one of 26 designers showing this year, so the honor is enormous and we are so proud!  Oh, and RHCreation has a “Womens” collection as well for those ladies who dont fit into model sizes 🙂

Finally, we have the gorgeous Rebecca Stirm.  Only 18 years old, this up-and-comer has already placed 2nd in Jamaica’s Project Runway.  She has dressed several noted Belizeans, including me!   There is nothing more fun than seeing a dress online, taking your own measurements, emailing the designer and receiving a custom made designer dress in the Belize Post.  Awesome!  Love the dress, by the way, which makes sense since according to Naturebel.com, her designs are “made fort he ultimate girly girl”.

Rebecca recently designed a bridal gown, which i must say, i adore.
