Flowers

Belize is and has a lot of “worlds most” this, and “worlds biggest” that…and flowers are not to be overlooked when making such grandiose statements about such a wee-small country. Since we have both rain forests and sandy islands, the diversity of plant life is incredible.

The national flower of Belize is the Black Orchid, and orchids can be found all over the country. There was one on my wall when i bought the house – once every 2 years or so it would shoot out these loooong stalks with a small, not very pretty flower on it. Eventually, it became the home of the termites that invaded my house, but i digress. There are many truly stunning orchids in Belize, and there is a resort on the mainland with an inspired and stunning orchid greenhouse.

Aside from orchids, we have hibiscus, roses, plumeria, purple drum like trumpet flower ones i love, and the same in yellow, we also have bougainvillea, oleander, lilies and whole ton of others.

Some flowers from my walks…

We have a few incredibly talented floral designers that will be able to work with you to create exactly what you would like for your wedding. If the flower isnt available here in Belize (for example, we dont have white orchids or roses), for a fee they can be gotten from Mexico.

This is a cluster of flowers that were used as both the wedding aisle, and then they were then transferred to the tables as centerpieces. 🙂

The same bride as the aisle above, but her bouquet, pictured with a memory 🙂 I really loved her flowers.

Bridal Bouquet, and a memory

Floral tips and bits to note: Hibiscus open and close with the sun. If you want hibiscus for a sunrise wedding, you’re outta luck. Same for hibiscus for an evening affair. Nope, wont work. Also, when storing your flowers before you walk down the aisle – dont let anything touch the blooms. It makes them go brown.
