Getting Back On The Yoga Wagon Is More Fun Than Ms Pacman

Getting Back on the Yoga Wagon is more fun than Ms Pacman

I am currently actively endeavoring to live my own “personal road less traveled”.  I am 42, and just because I always say I’ve “always been like this” or like that, doesn’t mean it’s still true.  So in addition to taking the dog for a walk in the rain, turning down a path I’ve never seen before, and going to bed at 9:30 even though “I’ve always been a night owl”, I decided to do something really out of my comfort zone.

I woke up, ate breakfast, and then went to yoga.  I “never work out in the morning”, but as I try to shake up my own life without getting on an airplane, I decided to try something new.  The weather yesterday morning was perfect.  It was super chilly and overcast.  It was a beautiful day to ride to town for an 8:30 am class at the not-yet-opened “Zen Arcade”.  PLEASE NOTE: the place is not yet opened – so don’t judge

Tara and Noel, both accomplished yoga instructors and new mom’s joined forces to build their vision of a…well…of a place to do what you need to do – from yoga to massages to a new hair style and a day by the pool with the girls. In any event, Tara is simply an exceptional yoga instructor.  I was thrilled when I saw her on the street and she told me they had started their soft opening with Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes at 8:30 am.  They are free for the month of January.

So, between the invigorating fall chill in the air and a free  yoga class, I could scarcely come up with an excuse to stay in bed.  So, I went.  I’m so glad I did.

As you pull into the parking lot of the Zen Arcade, you’re struck by the vision.  I can totally see how this will come together.  It’s a great space.  I walked up the stairs to the rooftop where Noel was about to start class.  I “fell off the yoga wagon” over a year ago, and I have done no form of exercise since.  I was so glad to be back.  The view from the roof is lovely.  You can hear the dogs barking at “Fort Dog” and the birds chirping in the trees.  You can also hear the planes as they go directly over head from time to time.  For me, though, the sound of the planes is just “part of it”.  It’s sort of like living near a train track – eventually you can’t sleep without the sound of the train on the tracks at 3 am.  The planes sound like “home” to me, so I didn’t mind at all.

I am very sore today, and I consider that to be a wonderful thing.  The class was absolutely perfect, and I was excited to get the full tour and hear the vision.  Adam was there, and he regaled me with tales of concrete and water containers.  He also explained, it technicolor detail what the pool area will look like.  This whole space really will be a bit of an oasis.  Yes, that’s the word – an Oasis.

“Everything that is wood is going to be the pool.  The whole is the deep part of the pool”, Adam explained to me.  He also told me about the lounge chairs that will be in the later, the area for the band to set up, and of course, the bar.  Between the gorgeous pool area and the stunning roof top views, this space will be just fab for rehearsal dinners and parties.

There will be a cafe manned, chef’ed and run by Rojo Lounge.  The food will, of course, be awesome.

They have several day rooms for rent for acupuncturists, or eyeball color people (iridologists?), massage therapists, or anyone else who wants to have a professional space to treat clients.  There is an extremely well thought out beauty salon with 3 hair stations and 2 manicure stations.

The Zen Arcade is planning on featuring some art as well as hosting some evening events.  I think that they are onto something, and I cannot wait to join their Arcade.  They are still working through their monthly plans and are not officially open until February.

I haven’t been this excited about an arcade since Ms Pacman came out when I was 9!
