Real Bride Question – Father of the Bride In A Wheelchair. What to do?
Here’s Another Real Bride Question
Advice for wedding ceremony where father of the bride is immobile in a wheelchair? Has anyone had or been through a wedding ceremony where the father of the bride was severely disabled? My fiance’s father has MS and at this point is in a wheelchair and can’t really speak or move. It’s horrible. we are getting married in May and don’t know what to do about walking down the aisle or the first dance. We’ve tried to talk about it, but she gets upset because she knows her dad would want to do these things but just can’t. Any advice on how to get him to have these moments with his daughter without it being a spectacle?
My Response: there is no “spectacle” among family and friends. Please know that you are loved, as is your fiances father. For the first dance, is it possible to have them sit together in the center of the room, as music plays and you watch a video of them together? Photo, old videos? Tell the story of the “Father Daughter Dance” differently… perhaps you know someone who can “animate” some photos? i know there are ‘techie’ people out there, so maybe they can have a virtual dance?
What do you think? What advice would you have for this groom?
