Adopt A Classroom in Belize
Sheree’s Got A Dream – and it involved the children of belize, and education. She wants to start an “Adopt a Classroom” project. Such a simple idea that could literally change the country, and therefore the world. With fewer than 40% of San Pedro children graduating High School, it’s fair to say we are likely leading the country with that paltry number.
This past April, i was back in the Philadelphia area visiting family and friends. I spent some time with a dear friend and her family in NJ. Her youngest daughter had a recital at school, so we went. The recital was about Mexico, and my friend went on to tell me how the school raised money to buy supplies for a school in Mexico. Hell, Belize is a hella-lot more needing that Mexico. She and i tried to figure out a way to make it simple, but alas, nothing is.
But really, it IS simple. And Sheree’s Dream proves it. Here, an Adopt a Classroom or School is explained. Pretty basic, pick a classroom or school, do a fundraiser in your local community, and ship the stuff down. It’s that simple to change the world…really, it is.
I of course, think it’s a FANTASTIC reason for someone to come visit Belize. The leader of the fundraising project and a few students could come down and SEE the direct impact they are having. This isnt like dropping off donations at a Red Cross Shelter…this is MEETING, hugging, talking, and laughing with the very children whose life you are able to impact. Powerful stuff, and the stuff that forms the moral character of your kids. Awesome.
There is more background on the website, but following are the directions on how to Adopt a Classroom
How to Adopt A Class Room In Belize
- Step 1: Identify the School or Classroom you are thinking about adopting, preferable a school whose students are financially challenged.
- Step 2: Reach out to the Teacher or Principal for the supply list that each students would normally need
- Step 3: Organize your fundraisers and own your adoption.
- Step 4: Donate the stuff
Seriously, it’s that simple. I’d work out your travel and experience for you…just come and help.
As we approach Fathers Day, i’ll share with you the most sound piece of advice my father ever gave me:
“No One Can Ever Take Away Your Education or Your Dignity” – let’s make sure all kids have both, shall we?
