Day After PhotoShoot

In 2002 I had a destination wedding. One of the few things that truly mattered to me was the Photographer. Somehow, back in 2002 when the internet was barely a “thing”, I was able to find a fantastic destination wedding photographer. I don’t recall if it was his idea or mine, but we had agreed to do a Day After Photoshoot waaay before it was fashionable đŸ˜‰

Of course, a Day After Wedding Photo Shoot could be anything from breakfast in bed to something Theme’d like “Bonnie and Clyde Take San Pedro….in a golf cart”. How fun it would be to plan a theme’d shoot around the country of Belize.

While I understand that adding on another session with your photographer may make it seem like a frivolity, the few bucks extra will be completely forgotten when you look at those photos in the coming decades. To help elucidate, here are my: Top 3 (+2 Bonus) Reasons to do a “Day After PhotoShoot”

1. The Stress Is Over – The Wedding is officially over. It’s done. Now you can relax. NOW it’s about the two of you, not your guests, not the flowers or the officiant or anything. You can now focus on each other, and more to the point – ENJOY each other, and how fun to have a fantastic local photographer as your guide to a fantastic day… all the while capturing your mood and expression as you enjoy your destination wedding location.

2. The Birth of The Spouse Your wedding day is the very last day you wake up single. The day after your wedding is the first day you wake up and greet the day as a “Spouse”. On this day, you wake up as a “Wife” or a “Husband”. Shouldn’t the first day you are a “Spouse” be celebrated? Happy Spouse Day!!!

3. Photog Familiarity Let’s face it, everyone is a little nervous on their wedding day. Often, it’s the first or second time you are meeting your photographer. After spending hours together on Wedding Day, the comfort and familiarity that comes from having gone through the wedding together, creates an intimacy and connection that makes the Day After shoot a really awesome vibe, and for me, at least as memorable if not more so, than my Wedding Day. And I LOVE the pictures in more casual clothes.

BONUS 1: You can use one of the photo’s for your “Thank You” notes or Christmas Cards (just bring Santa Hats!) With a bit of planning, you can do all sorts of fun stuff with your photo’s.

BONUS 2: You get to buy a whole second outfit!

TIP: If you can only afford 1 photographer, make sure it’s a local one. International wedding photographers can’t/won’t know the best places for such shoots.
