Tale of 3 Cities – Part 2 New York City
I’ve never met a celebrity. Once, when i was about 6 years old, we went to the Zoo on a school trip. There was a guy from the local news there…doofy 70’s mustache and all. I got to look at him, and was in awe. His face embedded in my brain to this day. That was my ‘celebrity peak’.
That all changed as Jenn from Bradley Bunch Bakery drove me from Bucks County, PA to NYC on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 for my 130 pm meeting with Ronnie Rothstein. You might not know who he is, but for me – meeting him was like meeting Harry Connick, Jr or Will Smith. Mr Rothstein is the owner of Kleinfeld Bridal, the store in the show “Say Yes To The Dress”. Mr Rothstein went to University of Pennsylvania, and was the force behind making Kleinfeld Bridal the USA’s most recognizable wedding store, if not the world. I was there to meet with him about creating a “Kleinfelds’ Belize Honeymoon Package”. The intention is to create a piece of collateral material to be handed out to each of the 17,000 brides who walk through their doors in one year….not to mention space on their website, which is run and managed by The Knot.
I’m only moderately good at only one thing. I like business. I like the act of business, i like the process of business, i like Business. Some people paint, some people sing, others can do computer technical stuff, and yet others can make something using their hands that actually does what it’s supposed to do… These are skills i do not posses. And, as would be the case for any novice in any field or endeavor finding him/herself “at the table” with the “Grand Poo Bah” of that field, I was humbled, thrilled, and eager to learn. And i did what anyone in such a circumstance would do: I geeked out.
I mean full on, camera blazin, whispering with my teammates Lisa Light and Rebecca from geekin’ out. Rebecca wisely hissed at me to stop geekin’ out as we walked through the showroom. It’s like being in a megaplex of girly.
I got my act together, and got my game-face on. We had our meeting, which went toe-curling-ly well. Details under wraps though. After our super positive, productive meeting, Ronnie had his assistant show us around the $10,000,000 store. Now that the meeting is over, I’m free to geek-out good and proper.
After all that excitement, Rebecca, Lisa and I go to a cafe to get a glass of wine and wait for Jenn and Megan, our friend. Who is sitting at the table next to me? Harry Connick, Jr. I kid you not.
What a day.
