Where is Belize? In South America?

That is the question most people ask when first hearing about Belize.

Contrary to what some people think, Belize is not in South America, nor Africa. It is, however, situated in the heart of Central America. Most people don’t know that this Caribbean wonder is just a hop, skip and a jump from the U.S. Right under Mexico, next to Guatemala, welcoming the waves of the Western Caribbean Sea.

But that is part of its charm. It has always been there but nobody noticed it. For the most part, only a small portion of the world’s tourist population has been to Belize; that has kept Belize’s Barrier Reef, Maya ruins and pristine rainforest “unspoiled” for all to enjoy.

Now that I am a Londoner, with the pleasure of residing in Belize for several years.

Very few days goes by without being lost in a memory of walking barefoot on the white sands or sitting in the warm ocean, with fish fluttering around me.   Of course, having access to travel anywhere in Europe is yes the “bee’s knees,” but Belize, calls the heart home.

But truly, once you “Do Belize,” you will always long to go back.  It gets under your skin, the warmth, the sun, the easy pace of life. My favorites were the warm balmy nights and rum cocktails, dancing to the tunes of the local band by the waterfront. There exist ease of living, where even a work day feels indulgent, surrounded by sunshine and palm trees.  And by the time you land, your kicking off your shoes and melting into the rhythm of chill.

The Gorgeous Phil-zean (Philadelphian now Belizean) friend Lara Goldman, is the Master mind behind Romantic Travel Belize.  Not only does her business prides itself on being a Belize Destination Wedding site, for Weddings by Design.  It is quickly becoming the trend runner in Holidays by Design.

Lara asked of me, a former Belizean, by way of Cali, now living in London.  To write a piece to entice all my fellow British Travelers to take a walk into the wild unknown, “Common Wealth” of the United Kingdom, Belize.

Yes, Belize is actually part of the Common Wealth of the United Kingdom since 1981, with The Queen as Sovereign. Which allows, British Nationals a visit for up to 30 days without a visa.

• One can fly from London to Cancun, Cancun to Belize City. And pond jump to the Caye of your choice. Or you can travel via Roatan Honduras, Guatemala City Guatemala, San Salvador or Mexico City Mexico.  As well as the option of Traveling through the US, via Miami or Texas.
